Meet the Sheep

Percy, Wulfric, and Brian might be the easiest going trio of animals at the Menagerie. They get along with pretty much everyone, and always stay in their pens! Percy and Wulfric are wool breeds and look like the classic sheep most people imagine, Brian is a Dorper sheep, a hair breed that shed their coats more like a goat. All three came to us as bottle babies whose mothers were no longer able to care for them.

  • Meet Percy

Percy and Wulfric came to us at the same time as Rick, Morty, and Weatherby the goats as weed-eating reinforcements in Spring of 2022. Sheep and goats have different grazing preferences, with goats browsing more heavily on leaves and foliage, and sheep grazing on grasses. Percy is a sweet, gentle sheep who is also pretty outgoing and always checking in to see if you have treats or get a scratch behind the ears.

Fun Fact: Percy is a wool breed, and we shear him every spring to keep him cool and comfortable before the summer months.

  • Meet Wulfric

Like Percy, Wulfric came to us as a bottle baby with our trio of floppy-eared goats in 2022. Sheep are flock animals that feel most comfortable with a member of the same species. Wulfric is a little more reserved than Percy or Brian, and is less likely to approach people unless he's really sure that treats are involved. Wulfric has a very distinctive, and very loud bleat that can be heard anytime he thinks he's missing out on snacks.

Fun Fact: The spots on Wulfric's face to necessarily indicate a specific breed, but rather that one of his parents had a black face and one of his parents had a white face.

  • Meet Brian

Brian joined us Spring of 2023 after a farmer took in a flock of sheep from a neighbor who didn't want them anymore. She didn't realize they were pregnant, and Brian was born on a very cold night and caught a chill. He wasn't able to eat on his own, and she reached out to us to see if we would take him. We had to tube feed Brian a few times before he was strong enough, but he quickly felt better, and now he's a family favorite. Brian is a Dorper sheep, who are raised for meat and don't grow wool. This is also why he still has is tail, because it isn't as risk of infection from feces accumulating on it.

Fun Fact: Brian and Jeffrey the steer were babies together and are still good buddies despite the size difference!
