Changing Lives, One Scale At A Time

Reptiles had always been among the animals Molly and Kayson had championed while working at the shelter, with each of them taking home a few throughout the years. This inspired the inclusion of a lizard in our logo. We soon discovered the need was greater than we had expected, particularly for reptiles requiring specialized care due to illness or improper husbandry. Reptile Rehab at Gray Muzzle Society was born.

We collaborate with local shelters to rescue special needs reptiles, providing rehabilitation until they are healthy enough for adoption into new families. We also offer education, assistance, and supplies to reptile owners who struggle to provide proper care, helping keep these animals in loving homes and out of shelters.

For those reptiles not suited for the average home, they become our ambassadors, helping us educate reptile owners and the public about these often misunderstood creatures.

Husbandry and Veterinary Support

Unlike dogs and cats who have been domesticated and lived with us for thousands of years, reptiles are wild animals at their core, and require specialized care. This means large enclosures, and heat, humidity, and lighting that mimic their natural habitat. Unfortunately many reptiles are sold as "beginner" pets at a low price and with inadequate housing or education to future owners. Many of the reptiles in our care have come to us with serious, life threatening conditions that could have been avoided with proper husbandry, or treated much more successfully with early intervention. We understand that equipment and exotic animal veterinarians can be expensive, and we never want finances to be the reason that an animal suffers or ends up abandoned. That's why we offer specialized assistance and education to help scaly pets stay with their people.
